Carving a Canyon

28 February 2021
Geology

Two huge landslides have occurred in British Columbia. As it is winter a proper assessment has not been done. That will happen in the spring or summer. They occurred in December of 2020. Debris from a rock slope has run along the Elliot Creek for a distance of 13km, apparently carving out an instant canyon or enlarging a pre-existing one. The second one was in a corner of NW British Colimbia, not to far from Juneau the capital of Alaska. Pictures of the landslides can be seen at the landslide blog of one Dave Petly [of the University of Sheffield]. See https://blogs.agu.org/landslideblog/
