Scars of Flooding

Gary sent in this cracker – https://www.iflscience.com/giant-scars-of-ice-age-floods-can-be-seen-in-the-us-from-space-72037 … satellite images from a location around 75 miles from Spokane in Washington State show the scars left behind by catastrophic floods of water tearing through that part of North America at the end of the Late Glacial Maximum. The scars amount to huge gouges torn out of the land surface. These are gigantic versions of the gouges made by torrential rain that we may come across when out walking in the hills.

The images were released by NASA Earth Observatory and the US Geological Survey of what is now a rich agricultural landscape growing crops such as hops, tree fruite, sweet corn, potatoes and grains etc. They are otherwise known as the Channelled Scablands which you can put in your search engine to find more images and information. The idea that flood waters were involved in creating them was resisted for years by mainstream academic geologists. Harlen Bretz was a thorn in their side as he extensively surveyed them last century. In the end, the evidence was overwhelming but mainstream watered it down. Instead of one single massive flooding event caused by the melting of the ice cap at the end of the Late Glacial Maximum, an obviously catastrophic event of enormous significance, they came up with a gradualist interpretation of a series of flooding events caused by an ice dam melting and then refreezing on many occasions. How that worked in the real world is a bit of a problem – but never mind, they blame the 6000BC event on locked up glacial water, stored for virtually 10,000 years. Ten or twenty ice dam buildups and demolitions is kids stuff in comparison. Hence, the link says, the ice dam formed, broke, and reformed, over and over again. This tames what really happened. A single flooding event requires an explanation they did not wish to accept.
