New Zealand Super Eruption

3 June 2026
Geology, Volcanism

Around 350,000 years ago, during a cool climatic period in the region, a huge eruption occurred on what is now the north island of New Zealand. See https://phys.org/news/2026-05-supereruption-nz-years.html … The Taupa Volcanic Zone is home to caldera and still active volcanoes, geothermal hot springs and mud pools.

At https://phys.org/news/2026-06-ancient-oceans-began-suffocating-millions.html … another example of uniformitarian dating of sediments making a mockery of a major extinction event. The sediments in this case are dated 8 million years prior to the end of Triassic mass extinction event. Not a great deal when compared to Cretaceous sediments laid down by the Chicxulub asteroid – but no doubt other older sediments have also been dated millions of years even earlier.  The end of Triassic event occurred 200 million years ago on the geological column. Whatever caused the catastrophe it set up volcanoes around the world. It even acidified the oceans. They stripped oxygen from sea water, we are told – and starved the oceans. Is that why so much marine life perished at the Triassic event – or other factors not taken into account.
