An odd photon that challenges Einstein. It is alleged the gamma ray burst was the brightest ever observed by astronomers – and reached our planet among a cluster of photons. It was not alone. They are elementary particles of light, we are told. Among the cluster was an exceptional photon captured by a Russian observatory in the Caucasus. It carried an energy equivalent to 300 teraelectronvolts. The highest ever recorded.
Mainstream supposes the photon would have interacted with photons from the cosmic microwave background, the afterglow of Big Bang. It should have transformed into other particles, disappearing long before it reach Earth.
