Astronomers are deliberately targeting black holes in order to understand what makes them erupt – see https://phys.org/news/2026-08-supermassive-black-hole-erupted-rays.html …. In this study we have a well described investigation using the Swift X-ray Telescope, focussing on a supermassive black hole at the heart of the Perseus Cluster. It suddenly flared in x-rays – and 300 days later there was also a powerful radio emission that flared too. The study describes the connection between the accretion disk and the jets that flared. No actual firm evidence of what actually was going on within that connection zone was made, in spite of the many exposures of it on Swift. Suggestions of what might have been going on are restricted to a mainstream view of black holes. One was the idea the black hole was in the process of feeding on matter of some kind, possibly a star that came too close – but nothing was actually witnessed. Like most of cosmology, theory dominates. Black holes, it seems, remain mysterious. Or, at least, within mainstream circles.
